A new-looking kitchen, without tearing one out.

Most kitchens Mitch is called into have good bones: solid boxes, a layout that works, and a 1990s finish nobody loves. Refinishing keeps all of that and changes what you see. As Mitch puts it, it saves money for the upgrades that matter, like a new countertop or backsplash.

Doors and drawer fronts come off, get labeled, degreased, sanded and primed, then finished on drying racks. The boxes are prepped and finished in place with the kitchen masked off. Hardware goes back on the same doors it came off.

Finishes are chosen for wear. Recent kitchens and vanities have been done in Fine Paints of Europe Eco Satin and Eco Brilliant, in colors like White Duck with a Shiitake island, Bucktrout Brown, and Benjamin Moore's Silhouette.

Can you change the color of stained wood cabinets?

Yes. Oak, cherry and maple cabinets are cleaned, sanded and primed with a bonding primer so the new color grips, then finished in the sheen you choose.

How long will it hold up?

A properly prepped and primed cabinet finish is built for daily use. Mitch uses cabinet-grade coatings and will walk you through care for the first few weeks while the finish cures.
